Wood is defined by DNA, but its soul is preserved by your art…

I’ve held Amati and Guarneri violin, I’ve had a close look at Stradivari violin, I visited the majority of the experienced violin makers ateliers and learned from them, and essentially for all of them the common point is – the material.

Bosnian flamed maple, annual rings  1.5-2.0 mm, soft and mildly wood that delaminates during processing.

The first step ”old school” violin makers take is to visually check the wood and then if the wood has satisfying characteristics the most important step is to check the sound conductivity.

Flames form due to the conditions of growth, but there is a thin line between a good material and  so called ”wild” flamed maple with very strong flames, but with twisted annual rings, hard wood, with questionable characteristics, not very enjoyable to work with.

Artists such as violin makers can’t afford themselves to become part of the general 21st century fast paced lifestyle.

CHOOSE A GOOD MATERIAL MEANS NOT TO BE ON THE WRONG WAY TO A GOOD INSTRUMENT!
